Tech Firms Race to Hire Policy Leaders, Triggering Ripple Effects Across Washington — The Information

Policy leaders are in short supply thanks to new hiring demand from big tech and crypto firms as both industries barrel toward regulatory showdowns.

Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz is on the hunt for someone to lead policy and government affairs for its crypto practice, according to a person familiar with the matter. Cryptocurrency exchange Binance is looking for someone to oversee global government relations and policy, said two people familiar with the matter. Meanwhile, Jay Carney’s departure as Amazon’s head of policy and communications has put the spotlight on how the tech giant will fill the role.

There is an element of musical chairs in the hunt for expanded representation in Washington. Andreessen’s search follows the departure of its policy chief, Tomicah Tilleman, who left for Haun Ventures. Meanwhile Carney is leaving Amazon to join Airbnb, succeeding Chris Lehane, who like Tilleman left to join Katie Haun’s new crypto fund earlier this year.
