Melon Festival slated for Saturday

Children compete in a watermelon eating contest at the inaugural Yadkin Valley Melon Festival hosted by the BBDDA in downtown Boonville in 2019.

BOONVILLE — The second annual Melon Festival hosted by the Boonville Business and Downtown Development Association is planned for this Saturday in Boonville. The community celebration will be held at 120 W. Main Street, next to Dollar General. The festival will feature a variety of food and vendor booths as well as live music, kid’s play area and more.

This year’s event will kick off at 12 p.m. with a showcase where area residents and visitors can show off their vocal talents on stage. Blue Sky Band will perform from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Phatt City will take the stage from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A watermelon eating contest and seed spitting contests is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Vendor, food and information booths at Saturday’s event will include the Boonville Fire Dept., Sanders Ridge, Green Mesa, Yadkin Soccer Association, Starmount Boosters, Dudley’s Dugout, Boonville Methodist Church, RagApple Lassie, Thirsty Soul, Richmond Hill, Unifi employment, Avon, Tie Dye Clothing, AgeLOC Skincare, wood crafts, homemade earrings, the Town of Boonville, Amazing Kettle Korn, Pampered Chef, Yadkin Nursing Care and Wildflower Boutique.

Southland will have a truck on site and giant wooden games. There will also be a kid’s zone with inflatables and games.
