Coinbase says Capital-Markets Head Brett Redfearn has left the company

Coinbase Global Inc earlier this year. Former federal regulator Brett Redfearn has left the crypto exchange after about four months of work.

Redfearn was head of Coinbase’s Capital Markets Group. He resigned from the company at the end of July. A Coinbase spokesman confirmed a previously unreported departure.

Coinbase is the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the United States. With more than 56 million users, it has played a major role in the spread of digital currencies.

Redfearn, a former executive of the Securities and Exchange Commission, left the company after Coinbase decided to shift its priority from digital asset securities, people familiar with the matter said. He was one of the company’s hottest hires this year.

Digital asset securities are crypto tokens included in the legal definition of securities under US law, unlike Bitcoin, which regulators consider to be commodities, such as traditional stocks and bonds.
