Ashe was brought in to the shelter as a stray and was missing part of her lower foot. The injury occurred long ago and is completely healed. She gets around as well as any and is a very loving 2-year-old domestic shorthair. Due to her past injury, her perfect home will be indoors. She gets around great, but if she ever had to protect herself, she would be at a disadvantage.
The Jonesville Public Library and the Yadkin County Animal Shelter are teaming up to gather supplies at the library with a pet supply drive, which will culminate with a special discounted pet adoption fair at the animal shelter at the end of the month.
During the remainder of July, the library is collecting:
-Dog and cat toys, especially Kong balls for dogs
-Dog and cat treats
-Used, clean towels and rags
-Canned paté cat food
The shelter has seen an influx of intakes recently, said Shelter Director Jason Roels.
“The only thing I can relate it to is more people are going back to work in the last months, and the flood gates have opened,” he said. “I do believe it is part of the pandemic. It’s definitely more cats, but it is an increase of both — our intake numbers and percentages have increased big time for both cats and dogs in the past couple months.”
“I feel we are not going to ever get out of kitten season,” he added.
With animal-themed events at the library throughout the month, the pet supply drive will conclude with an adoption fair at the animal shelter on July 31, with adoption fees discounted. Typically dog adoptions cost $100, but on July 31 they will be $20. Cat adoption fees will be reduced from $85 to $10. All adoptions include vaccines and a spay or neuter.
As of this week, the shelter had about six dogs available and 20 cats, although the number does fluctuate.
