“Ripple effect enormous” as Echuca Lions Club donates golf day proceeds to Vivid

A sizeable donation from the Echuca Lions Club to Vivid will have positive ripple effects, according to chief executive Scott Alexander.

Following the Lions’ annual golf day in March, club president John Paterson presented a cheque for $6000 to Mr Alexander on Thursday, June 17.

The funds were raised from various sponsors and contributions from the Rich River Golf Club, as well as donations on the day of the event.

Though proceeds were somewhat down this year due to COVID restrictions and bad weather, the Lions Club was proud to choose Vivid as its recipient this year, with the cause changing yearly.

Mr Alexander said the money would be spent continuing to expand work opportunities for people with a disability.

“We will apply the donation to our supported employment business, Work Crew Echuca,” he said.

“It has had a big past two years, and landed some of its biggest contracts ever.

“And we are actively looking to expand into other regions, particularly Kyabram.

“There is a need to purchase new equipment when expanding, running from smaller items like brush cutters and lawn mowers all the way through to dual cab utes.”

Mr Alexander said Echuca Lions Club’s support and generosity was “overwhelming”.

“The gratitude felt throughout our organisation, it’s not just limited to the financial impact and the size of the donation,” he said.

“It also has a benefit for our staff and an acknowledgement of the value of the work they do.

“And then it spreads further than that, it’s a ripple effect — it goes to the people we support, people with disabilities, but also their families and support systems.”
