CARY — The North Carolina High School 1A women’s tennis State Championship was held over the weekend in Cary. East Wilkes’ Sylvia Prevett and Tristen Blevins competed in the 1A doubles quarterfinals for the Lady Cardinals. Prevett and Blevins put up a tough fight, but they were ultimately beat by Research Triangle 6-1 in both sets. Pine Lake Prep was named the 1A State Championship team, while Andersen Schubert was the 1A Most Valuable Player.
In the 2A state championship rounds, Forbush’s Megan Smith and Elei Ayers made it to the first round after a top five finish at Regionals. Smith and Ayers took on Kara Comer Taylor Comer from Wheatmore. The match went to three sets, but it was Wheatmore who came up with the 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win.
