FARMINGTON — Members and guests of the North Carolina Daniel Boone Heritage Trail gathered recently near Farmington, in Davie County for a history lesson and tour of the Boone homesite on Sugar Tree Creek.
Sim and Michelle DeLapp, of Lexington, presented the group with maps and materials documenting the site. The couple are professional in their research of Boone in North Carolina, carefully collecting primary and secondary documents pertaining to the Boone-Bryan families in the area.
It is believed that Rebecca and Daniel Boone lived in a log cabin with their five children and possibly other family members in the mid 1700s before moving further up the Yadkin River in what is now Wilkes County. This site is now under a Farmland Protection Easement through Three Rives Land Trust.
The group walked to the old cabin site and to the banks of Sugar Tree Creek before having a round of Q&A and settling in the shade for a picnic lunch.
