Forbush Alumnus earns doubles victory

VALENCIA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women’s tennis notched its second win of the season on Sunday afternoon, defeating Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche University 6-3 at Lakevue Athletic Club. Stephanie Swain, a Forbush High School alumnus, earned an 8-1 win in her doubles match.

The Lions (2-2, 2-2 AMCC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the match by securing two points in doubles play.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Jessica Stevens (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria) rolled to an 8-1 victory. In the No. 3 doubles slot, the tandem of Elani Etter (Franklin, TN)/Swain earned an 8-1 win.

Stevens and Acker’s win was the duo’s second together this season, while Etter and Swain partnered for their first win as a twosome.

Penn State Altoona proceeded to win four out of six from La Roche (1-1, 1-1 AMCC) in the singles portion of the match to win the day by three points.

Stevens started things off with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 1 match, and Alivia Serenita (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) prevailed 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) in the No. 4 match. Swain and Etter cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 slots, respectively.

The singles wins represented the team-leading third this spring for Stevens, the second for Etter, and the first for Swain and Serenita.
