Rotary Ripples for the week of January 27, 2021 | Community News

Orofino Rotary Club members met via Zoom Jan. 22. It was nice to see the familiar faces, even if it was on the computer screen. Janet Craven of Kamiah was formally introduced and inducted virtually. We look forward to the days when we can meet again in person, until then we just have to make it work!

Rotary minutes from the board meeting held Jan. 20 were submitted by Scott McDonald, Club Secretary.

President’s report

James Jordan

Danielle Hardy is relocating to Moscow. Danielle’s service to our community and to Orofino Rotary is very much appreciated. With her resignation as vice president, we need a vice president and a president for the 2021-22 Rotary year. If interested in serving in one of these positions, please contact James Jordan.

The club received a check for $256 for the work installing an accessibility ramp last month

Three Little Free Library Boxes have been built and were delivered to Belinda for painting. Scott will purchase the posts and they will be ready for installation as directed by CMPL. This project is being done with donated materials at no cost to Rotary.

Rotary’s commitment to helping staff the Lifeline Food Pantry on Monday evenings from 4:30-7 p.m.  is scheduled to continue through the end of June. Contact Lynn MacEachern to sign up to work.

James also discussed his recent ride-a-long with the senior meals program and we are looking at possible ways we can help that program.

The scholarship committee will need to meet in the near future.

We continued our discussion on possible fundraisers. Some ideas were raffles, restarting the Rotary Fun Run, etc. We also revisited the idea of maintaining the Kiwanis Park near Les Schwab, if they would like us to.

We discussed the idea of holding in-person Friday meetings with ten people or less at the Ponderosa (following state guidelines), with the rest attending via Zoom or by phone. James will get feedback from the membership at our next Friday meeting.

We are in need of speakers for our Friday Meetings. If you can arrange a for speaker, would like to do a presentation, or would like to do a repeat of your classification talk, please contact Scott to schedule it. With our meetings being held via Zoom, the speaker does not have to be in the area.
