Remote work was a growing option for companies before 2020’s pandemic crisis. It existed in theory and practice – at least partially – to address the growing understanding of the value of flexibility and a well-calibrated work-life balance to both companies and employees in the modern business world. Flash-forward to the threat of COVID making itself known in North America, and suddenly nearly every company in the U.S. found itself in triage on the subject of setting up a working remote model for the majority of their employees.
We’re in maintenance mode now, with the promise of a return to what we all thought of as “normal life” still hazily defined. And for many of us, remote work has become a normalized part of our work lives.
But dawning on many is the value of that flexibility we’ve been forced to gain. Companies that don’t have active central headquarter hubs can cast their nets for talent as wide as they want; Jobseekers no longer need to worry about necessarily living near major tech hubs, with their high costs-of-living.
