Wisdom Table showcases regional, global wines

ELKIN — The Wisdom Table opened its doors here this summer, a place to not only showcase local wines but also a place for wine lovers to expand their knowledge.

“You can learn every word in every book about wine but you won’t really know until you drink it,” said owner Jeremy Stamps.

Jeremy and Krystle Stamps have long dreamed of opening a space where wine lovers could gather to share wine and learn. The couple first met as students at North Carolina School of the Arts. They later worked together at Disney but would often return to North Carolina to visit. The two were married at Elkin Creek Vineyard and have long been fans of local wine.

The Wisdom Table offers more than 100 North Carolina wines and an equal amount of wines from around the globe. The store will also feature Riedel glassware and other wine-related items for sale.

The shop, located at 101 E. Main Street in Elkin, will also offer a menu of salads, sandwiches and meat and cheese trays in the future.

In addition to wine classes, The Wisdom Table will offer wine flights featuring vintages from local wineries, California and other parts of the world.

Stamps said practice tasting a variety of different wines from different regions will help to expand a wine drinker’s knowledge.

Flights will also include samplings of vintages from nearby groupings of wineries such as the wineries of Swan Creek.

Stamps said he hopes The Wisdom Table will become the “hub of the tourism scene” in the Yadkin Valley wine region.

In addition to Yadkin Valley wines, the shop will include selections from wineries from the Outer Banks to the mountains, Stamps said.

“We’re trying to get a little bit from everybody,” he said.

A selection of craft beers from smaller NC breweries as well as harder to find imports from Germany, Belgium, England and Scotland will also be available at The Wisdom Table.

The Wisdom Table will be open later in the evening so area residents and visitors have a place to grab a bottle of wine after the wineries are closed. The Wisdom Table is open Thursday through Friday from 12 noon to 7 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 7 p.m.
