Ripple Expands UBRI Research Initiative, Adds Canadian and Swiss Universities

Ripple Inc., a global company in the digital payments sphere, has introduced new partners in its long-term University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), a world-wide educational program.


Blockchain research for Switzerland, Canada and Mexico


The list of newly announced partners of UBRI includes ETH Zurich, University of Zurich, Ryerson University and Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM). These institutions have joined a global R&D network with 180 research products and 95 courses.



With these newcomers, the program now onboards 37 educational institutions in 15 countries. UBRI supports blockchain fundamentals research, software development progress and all kind of studies that cover the digital payments industry.


Within the framework of this program, The Center for Sustainable Digital Finance is launched by the University of Zurich. It pioneers an interdisciplinary approach to research on the interaction between crypto entrepreneurs, developers, users and regulators.


ETH Zurich is a scientific initiative dedicated to applied math, cryptography and informational security. It also discovers smart contracts, which can be of crucial importance for Ripple Inc. in view of the upcoming Flare XRP “utility fork.”

Once this fork is activated, XRP mechanisms will be powered by smart contract capabilities.


Digital studies for a digital future


Canada’s Ryerson University will use Ripple’s expertise to facilitate the progress of Mosaique, a one-of-a-kind data-driven system for decentralized networks. Also, leading Mexico-based university ITAM will launch a couple of courses on blockchain and cryptocurrencies.


Participants in the program highlight that Ripple’s efforts are in line with the increasing demand for cryptocurrencies and digital remittances all over the globe. Gustavo Salaiz, fintech professor at ITAM, announced that:
