Sportsbooks roll out entertainment props for Bitcoin and a raft of other cryptocurrency options in the market.

Will a US Airline take Bitcoin as payment? What about professional sport. Will any US league pay players in Bitcoin this year? Bovada Sportsbook weighs in on some of these heady questions with Bitcoin prop bets and other cryptocurrency bets.

Bitcoin rose in value exponentially in 2017 and nearly cracked $20,000, a market trend that prompted widespread intrigue from the mainstream public. Where there is a vested interest, sports betting shops are swift to follow. Thus, in this space, we look individually at some of the cryptocurrency and Bitcoin prop bets currently trading on the entertainment odds board and provide some insight.

Flying with Bitcoin

Flying with Bitcoin is not a myth but a reality. Certain airlines in various countries around the world are already accepting Bitcoin as a viable payment option.

Latvia-based Airbaltic, which flies Europe, Russia, CIS and middle east, is an example of an airline that accepts Bitcoin payment via Bitpay processor. Airbaltic was one of the first airlines to accept payment with Bitcoin, beginning the process in 2015.

Additionally, Japan’s Peach Aviation purportedly accepts bitcoin payments, and Norwegian Air, one of the largest airlines in Europe, may soon allow customers to pay with Bitcoin. Plans are in place to go ahead with this option in 2020.

Surf Air, a luxury travel provider, accepts Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin. Other travel providers such as XcelTrip, AirTreks, Virgin Galactic, Destina, BTCTrip, CheapAir, and aBitSky provide cryptocurrency payment options as well to customers looking to book flights and hotels.

To date, no American airline has made the bold move to directly accept Bitcoin as a viable payment option but according to Bovada Sportsbook, American Airlines Group is the favorite to lead the charge at +150. United Airlines trails at +250 while Delta and Southwest come in at a level +350.

Sports on Bitcoin

Will the cryptocurrency craze make its way into sports leagues this year? It’s a fair question given the sports betting sector is Bitcoin-friendly, as well as accepting other cryptocurrencies.

As many sports betting shops already embrace digital finance, recognizing the many benefits it provides in efficiency, speed, and process, sportsbooks have rolled out odds for various American sports leagues to become the first to get on board. Bovada Sportsbook tips the NBA as the best bet at +200 but the NFL closely follows at +220.

In the main, both these leagues have had players express interest in cryptocurrency options. Separately, the Sacramento Kings in 2014 became the first team in any American sports league to accept bitcoin transactions for ticket and merchandise purchases. The Dallas Mavericks became the second team to accept crypto bitcoin.
