A cryptocurrency bonanza has made a Canadian investor a billionaire.

Vitalik Buterin, 27, became a billionaire when the digital currency Ethereum rose above (US)$3000 earlier this week, the U.K.’s Daily Mail reported.

Buterin reportedly holds 333,000 Ether coins. He now lives in Singapore and was born in Kolomna, a Russian burg near Moscow. The price has gone up further since Buterin first joined the exclusive billionaire’s club.

His family moved to Canada where he was raised in Toronto before attending the University of Waterloo. Buterin dropped out after receiving a large grant and is one of the co-inventors of Ethereum.

His father had introduced him to bitcoin in 2011.

Buterin was 19 when he came up with the design for Ethereum in a white paper. It was crowdfunded in 2014 and went live in 2016 with a supply of 72 million Ether coins.
